Tricks that help

  • Count in 22s: start at 22 and add 22 each time (22, 44, 66, 88, 110…).
  • Split 22 into 20 and 2: 22 × 7 = 20 × 7 + 2 × 7 = 140 + 14 = 154.
  • 22 is double 11, so double the 11 times table: 11 × 7 = 77, and double 77 is 154.
  • 22 × 10 = 220: multiplying by 10 adds a zero to the end.
  • Every fact has a twin: 22 × 7 = 7 × 22 = 154. If you know one, you know both.
  • The last digits of the first ten answers go 2, 4, 6, 8, 0, 2, 4, 6, 8, 0.
