Tricks that help

  • Count in 24s: start at 24 and add 24 each time (24, 48, 72, 96, 120…).
  • Split 24 into 20 and 4: 24 × 7 = 20 × 7 + 4 × 7 = 140 + 28 = 168.
  • 24 is double 12, so double the 12 times table: 12 × 7 = 84, and double 84 is 168.
  • 24 × 10 = 240: multiplying by 10 adds a zero to the end.
  • Every fact has a twin: 24 × 7 = 7 × 24 = 168. If you know one, you know both.
  • The last digits of the first ten answers go 4, 8, 2, 6, 0, 4, 8, 2, 6, 0.
