Tricks that help

  • Count in 18s: start at 18 and add 18 each time (18, 36, 54, 72, 90…).
  • Split 18 into 10 and 8: 18 × 7 = 10 × 7 + 8 × 7 = 70 + 56 = 126.
  • 18 is double 9, so double the 9 times table: 9 × 7 = 63, and double 63 is 126.
  • 18 × 10 = 180: multiplying by 10 adds a zero to the end.
  • Every fact has a twin: 18 × 7 = 7 × 18 = 126. If you know one, you know both.
  • The last digits of the first ten answers go 8, 6, 4, 2, 0, 8, 6, 4, 2, 0.
