Free Scholarship Test Practice Games
Many independent schools award scholarships based on a test, most often from ACER or Edutest. These tests look at reasoning, reading, maths and writing, usually with multiple-choice questions and a written task. Regular practice of reasoning puzzles helps children feel calm and ready on the day.

Tips for parents
- Read widely: fiction, news for kids and non-fiction all build vocabulary for verbal reasoning.
- Practise number series by saying the rule out loud ("add 3, then double").
- Time some practice later on, but only once your child is accurate.
- Rest well the night before. A calm, rested child does better than a crammed one.

Frequently asked questions
What is on a scholarship test?
Usually reasoning (verbal and numerical), reading comprehension, mathematics and a writing task. The exact mix depends on the test the school uses.
What is the difference between ACER and Edutest?
They are two different test providers. Edutest has separate verbal and numerical reasoning sections, while ACER primary tests cover reading, mathematics and writing. Ask the school which one it uses.
How early should we start preparing?
Gentle, regular practice over several months works better than intense practice in the last few weeks.
