How to play Word Guess

  1. Choose a level: short words (3 to 5 letters), medium words (6 or 7 letters) or long words (8 letters or more).
  2. Read the category clue, such as Animals, Food or Sports, and look at how many letters the word has.
  3. Tap a letter on the on-screen keyboard, or type it on your own keyboard. Correct letters appear in the word.
  4. Every letter that is not in the word pops one of your 7 balloons. Find the word before they all pop!
  5. Stuck? Use a hint to reveal a letter, but it costs a balloon. Solve 5 words to finish the round.

What your child learns

  • Letter patterns and which letters often go together
  • Using vowels (a, e, i, o, u) as a smart first guess
  • Using a category clue and word length to narrow down choices

About Word Guess

Letter guessing games are a fun way to build spelling and vocabulary. To find the hidden word, children think about which letters are most common, where vowels usually go and which letter pairs, such as sh, ch and ee, often appear together. Each wrong guess is a small clue too, because it rules letters out.

Word Guess keeps the classic game but makes it gentle: instead of a drawing that builds up, there is a cheerful bunch of balloons, and each wrong letter pops one. Short words suit children in Primary 1–2, medium words suit Primary 3–4 and long words give older children in Primary 5–6 a real challenge.

Vowels are a great start, especially E and A, because almost every word has at least one. After that, try common consonants such as T, R, S, N and L.

How many wrong guesses do you get?

You start every word with 7 balloons. Each letter that is not in the word pops one, and a hint also costs one balloon.
