About Times Tables Test

Knowing a fact โ€œby heartโ€ means answering in about three seconds, without counting. A timed test is the clearest way to check this, and it shows exactly which facts still need work. In England, children in Primary 4 sit the Multiplication Tables Check: 25 questions on the 2 to 12 times tables, with 6 seconds to answer each one. The Real test mode here follows the same pattern, so children can practise calmly at home.

Start with Practice mode, which gives 12 seconds a question, and the easier tables if your child is still learning. Move to the Real test when they score 20 or more out of 25. The facts to practise list at the end is the most useful part: focus on those for a few days with the Times Tables Challenge game, then try the test again.

Frequently asked questions

How many questions are in the times tables test?

There are 25 questions, all from the 2 to 12 times tables, with no repeated facts in one test. The trickier 6, 7, 8, 9 and 12 times tables come up more often.

Is this the same as the Multiplication Tables Check?

It follows the same format as the Year 4 Multiplication Tables Check in England (25 questions, 6 seconds each), but it is our own free practice test and is not the official check.

What is a good score?

In the real check, 25 out of 25 is the goal, and many children score 20 or more. Whatever the score, practise the facts listed at the end and try again in a few days.

Can my child use it on a tablet?

Yes. The on-screen number pad works with touch, and a keyboard works too.
