Year 2 is a big year for mental maths and spelling. Children work with numbers to 1,000, learn their first times tables, and read the clock to the quarter hour or five minutes.
- Short and often beats long and rare: 10 minutes a day builds fact fluency faster than an hour once a week.
- Start one level below where your child is comfortable. Early wins build confidence.
- Ask your child to explain how they got an answer. Talking through a strategy deepens understanding.
- Celebrate streaks and personal bests rather than perfect scores.
