A digraph is two letters that make one sound. The first ones children learn are sh (ship), ch (chip), th (thin) and ck (duck).
๐ค Play the digraphs (sh, ch, th, ck) game
Tricks that make it easier
- Say the sound, not the letter names: sh, not "s-h".
- ck only comes at the end of a word or syllable, after a short vowel (back, duck).
- Collect words for each sound and sort them into lists.
Common mistakes
- Sounding out both letters separately (s-h instead of sh).
- Mixing up ch and sh.
- Using ck at the start of words.
