How to play Typing Rockets
- Choose a level: home row, top and bottom rows, short words or sentences. Then pick a 60-second round or a round of 5 lines.
- Type the letters shown. Each correct letter turns green and your rocket climbs towards the moon. If you press the wrong key, the letter flashes red: try again until you get it.
- Watch the keyboard picture: the next key glows, and its color shows which finger to use. Rest your fingers on A S D F and J K L ; between keys.
- At the end, see your speed in words per minute (WPM) and your accuracy. Careful typing scores the most points.

About Typing Rockets
Typing is now an everyday school skill: children type stories, research and online tests from the early primary years. Learning to touch type, with each finger in charge of its own keys, is much faster in the long run than hunting for letters with one finger. Short, regular practice is the best way to build the habit.
Typing Rockets starts on the home row, where the fingers rest, then adds the top and bottom rows before moving on to real words and sentences. A color-coded keyboard shows the next key and the finger to use, and mistakes never move you on, so children learn accuracy first. Points reward both speed and accuracy, and harder levels score more.

Frequently asked questions
What age should children learn to type?
Most children are ready to start learning the home row at about 6 or 7, once they know their letters. Little and often (5 to 10 minutes a day) works better than long sessions.
What is a good typing speed for kids?
Accuracy matters more than speed at first. Many children type 5 to 15 words per minute when they start, and older primary students often reach 20 to 30 WPM with regular practice.
Can my child play on a tablet or phone?
Yes. Tap the typing box to use the on-screen keyboard, or tap the keys in the keyboard picture. A real keyboard works best for learning to touch type.
