The ending -ous means โ€œfull ofโ€. Some root words stay the same (poison, poisonous); others change (fame, famous; vary, various).

Week 2: words ending in -sion

Use -sion when the root word ends in d, de or se (decide, decision) and for the โ€œzhunโ€ sound, as in television.

In words from Greek, ch often sounds like k (chorus). In words from French, it can sound like sh (chef).

Tip

Look at the word and say it aloud, cover it, write it from memory, then uncover it and check. Practise a few words each day rather than all ten at once, and use each word in a sentence.
