How to play Number Merge Puzzle

  1. Choose a level. Easy is โ€œMake 10โ€: two tiles that add up to exactly 10, like 3 and 7, vanish when they slide into each other. Any other pair just stops side by side.
  2. Medium and Hard are โ€œDoublesโ€: two tiles with the same number join into one worth double (2 + 2 = 4, 4 + 4 = 8 and so on). Reach 128 on Medium or 1024 on Hard to win.
  3. Swipe on the board, press the arrow keys (or W, A, S, D) or tap the arrow buttons. Every tile slides as far as it can, then a new tile appears.
  4. Make 30 tens on Easy to win. The game ends when the board is full and no tiles can join. On Easy you can undo one move per game, and your best score on each level is saved.

About Number Merge Puzzle

Sliding tile puzzles are a favourite with children and adults alike, and this one has a learning twist. On Easy, the only way to clear tiles is to slide two numbers that make 10 into each other. After a few games, children know their number bonds to 10 by heart, because spotting โ€œ7 needs a 3โ€ is how you keep the board clear. Partner numbers share a colour family to give younger players a gentle hint. Easy suits Foundation to Year 1.

Medium and Hard use doubling: two equal tiles join to make one worth twice as much. Building 2, 4, 8, 16, 32, 64 and then 128 practises doubling facts, while Hardโ€™s target of 1024 takes real planning: experienced players keep their biggest tile in a corner and build towards it. Medium suits Years 2โ€“3 and Hard suits Years 4โ€“6. Best scores are saved on this device so children can try to beat their own record.

Frequently asked questions

How does Make 10 work?

Slide the tiles in any direction. If a tile slides into a tile it adds up to 10 with (for example 6 and 4), both tiles vanish and you score points. Any other pair just stops next to each other. New tiles often arrive as partners for numbers already on the board, so there is usually something to aim for.

Is this like 2048?

The Medium and Hard levels use the same doubling idea as the popular 2048 puzzle, with smaller targets of 128 and 1024 that children can reach. The Easy level is our own Make 10 version that practises number bonds.

What is a good strategy?

On Easy, look for partners before you slide and try not to fill a whole row with numbers that cannot pair. On Doubles levels, choose a corner for your biggest tile and mostly slide towards it, so smaller tiles line up and join in order.

Can I undo a move?

On Easy you can undo one move per game with the Undo button or the Z key. Medium and Hard have no undo, so think before you slide!
