About Spaceman Word Game
Word-guessing games like hangman are a favourite in classrooms because they make children think hard about how words are built: which vowels are likely, which letters often go together, and which words fit a topic. Spaceman keeps all of that fun but swaps the gallows for a friendly alien and its flying saucer, so it suits even the youngest players.
Easy words, for Grade R to Grade 1, are short and familiar, such as CAT, CAKE and MOON. Medium, for Grades 2–3, has five and six letter words like ZEBRA, PLANET and CARROT. Hard, for Grades 4–6, has longer words like ASTRONAUT, BROCCOLI and WATERFALL. Every word is spelled the same way in British and American English, and each one comes with a topic clue.

Frequently asked questions
Is this the same as hangman?
It uses the same rules as hangman: guess letters to find a hidden word, with a limited number of wrong guesses. The difference is the picture. Each wrong guess adds a part to an alien spaceship instead of drawing a gallows, which many parents and teachers prefer for young children.
How many wrong guesses do I get?
You can make 6 wrong guesses safely. The 7th wrong guess finishes the spaceship and it flies away, and the word is shown.
What is a good first guess?
Start with vowels such as E, A and O, then common letters like T, S, R and N. Use the clue too: if the topic is animals and the word has three letters, it might be CAT, DOG or PIG!
