About Crossword Puzzles for Kids
Crosswords are one of the best word games for growing readers. To solve a clue, children have to understand what it means, think of words that fit, and then spell the answer exactly, because every letter is shared with another word. Letters that are already filled in give useful hints, which teaches children to use what they know to work out what they do not.
Easy puzzles, for Years 1–2, use five or six short words with simple clues. Medium, for Years 3–4, has eight words, and Hard, for Years 5–6, has ten to twelve longer words that cross in more places. There are 17 themes, including animals, food, school, the body, space, weather, the ocean, sport and maths words, and the computer builds a new grid every game, so no two puzzles are the same.
