Pattern tip: If the root word ends in -ce, use -cious (grace, gracious; vice, vicious). If it ends in -tion, use -tious (ambition, ambitious; caution, cautious).

A hyphen joins words that work together as one idea, such as numbers from twenty-one to ninety-nine and describing words like well-known.
Tip
Look at the word and say it aloud, cover it, write it from memory, then uncover it and check. Practise a few words each day rather than all ten at once, and use each word in a sentence.
