English in Year 2
Year 2 is a big year for mental maths and spelling. Children work with numbers to 1,000, learn their first times tables, and read the clock to the quarter hour or five minutes.
- Read the words aloud together. Hearing and saying words strengthens memory.
- Use new vocabulary from the games in everyday conversation.
- For spelling, encourage โlook, say, cover, write, checkโ away from the screen too.
- Praise effort and strategies (โyou sounded it out!โ), not just correct answers.
