Tricks that make it easier
- Learn the key facts: 1/2 = 0.5 = 50%, 1/4 = 0.25 = 25%, 3/4 = 0.75 = 75%, 1/10 = 0.1 = 10%, 1/5 = 0.2 = 20%.
- Percent means "out of 100": 37% = 37/100 = 0.37.
- To find 10% of a number, divide by 10; 5% is half of that.
Common mistakes
- Writing 1/4 as 0.4 instead of 0.25.
- Forgetting that 0.5 and 0.50 are the same.
- Thinking 0.25 is bigger than 0.3 because 25 is bigger than 3.
